ONLYOFFICE 10.0 Pushes AI and Modular Apps into Open-Source Workspaces

A major milestone release brings deep artificial intelligence integration, revamped spreadsheets, and over 1,000 fixes.

Staff Writer

Open-source productivity software has entered a more aggressive phase of feature competition. With the deployment of version 10.0 across both cloud and self-hosted environments, ONLYOFFICE has positioned artificial intelligence at the center of its document management ecosystem, aiming to disrupt both proprietary giants and traditional desktop alternatives.

The milestone release reconfigures the platform's core architecture through modular applications while infusing machine learning across its text, presentation, and spreadsheet editors. Developers announced that the cloud edition has rolled out with over 50 new functional features alongside comprehensive upgrades to document spaces.

"ONLYOFFICE Docs 10.0 introduces AI tools, modular apps, faster spreadsheets, improved PDF editing, and over 50 new features," reported open-source analyst @linuxiac, highlighting the scope of the architectural upgrade.

Beyond feature additions, the update addresses long-standing stability and rendering challenges. According to system benchmark site @phoronix, the release packages widespread maintenance alongside its headline integrations, noting that "ONLYOFFICE 10.0 Released With AI Features, 1,000+ Bug Fixes." The combination of bug resolution and speed improvements in the spreadsheet component targets enterprise teams that handle high-volume data sets without relying on proprietary Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace pipelines.

Modular Collaboration and Workspace Redesign

A central pillar of the 10.0 launch is the overhaul of DocSpace, the suite’s collaborative room-based system. Rather than treating artificial intelligence as a separate assistant sidebar or external plug-in, the developers restructured rooms around modular components covering forms, files, and integrated automation tools. According to the development team via @only_office, the system "reimagines DocSpace with modular Apps: AI, Forms, Rooms, and Files" designed to reduce interface clutter during live co-authoring sessions.

Tech publisher @Itsfoss underscored that the integration spans the entire toolset rather than remaining siloed in standalone utility screens: "There are apps for workflows and then every editor gets AI tools and new upgrades of its own in the latest release of ONLYOFFICE."

Pressure on the Open-Source Establishment

The aggressive rollout of AI assistance in an open-core productivity package has also sparked debate over the direction of modern office suites. For years, the open-source productivity sector has been anchored by LibreOffice, which prioritizes local desktop autonomy and conservative feature cycles over embedded neural networks and cloud-first collaboration models.

Observer @jreuben1 framed the 10.0 release as a challenge to that traditional philosophy, arguing that "With 10.0 Release, ONLYOFFICE Goes All in on AI, Making it the Most Modern Office Choice for Team Collaboration," while asking whether "LibreOffice neo-luddites" would adapt to the shift in workflow standards.

At the same time, alternatives attempting to emulate standard desktop layouts face protracted development roadmaps. @Itsfoss pointed out that early-stage competitors remain far from viable daily drivers: "Artcraft's much hyped MS Office clone is at least months away from being useful, if it ever reaches that point of development. Want something reliable, modern and AI-ready today? Go for ONLYOFFICE."

Whether enterprise IT administrators embrace embedded AI inside their sovereign document stacks will depend heavily on governance, on-premises privacy guarantees, and how easily these modular components integrate into existing directory services. With version 10.0 now operational, ONLYOFFICE has established its technical baseline for the next era of workplace collaboration.
